Molly's Costume Project - Bodice

Cutting out pattern pieces in the material was a bit of a guestimation process. Yes, I just made up a word and I like it! I'm not following the pattern to the exact detail. Therefore, figuring out how to place the pattern pieces and not run out of material too quickly can be quite a challenge! I'm making this a size 3 costume. It will be a little big on her. Yet it just may work for her birthday in December. My little girl will be 2 years old!!!
The majority of pattern instructions
begin with the bodice section. This one was no different. After I had the material prepared I used the lilac lining layered beneath the periwinkle chiffon. Based on the images of Abby Cadabby that I have, it seems like this combination may achieve the effect I'm looking for. I've worked with chiffon many times before. So I dove into the project well prepared with the smallest gauge needle I owned, 80/11, for the sewing machine! I had a bit of a quandary figuring out where I could stitch seams together and still be able to turn the bodice right-side out. I'm pretty pleased with the result!
Since my daughter is such a tall little lady (tops out in the 95th percentile for height) I planned ahead and included 2-3 extra inches at the bottom for her waistline. My hopes for Molly to wear this costume for her birthday in 4 months may be more feasible having done this as well!I was so excited to put the bodice on her little chest yesterday! She wasn't very cooperative at first. So I distracted her, ergo got her to stand still for pictures, by turning on Snow White. Take a look!
